EPISODE44 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

The passing of bassist Paul Raven affected some of our staff and warranted a little tribute to his time in Killing Joke. We then lightened the mood by reminding people of MC Hammer's "That's What I Said" (from the 1990 Rocky V soundtrack.) It seems not many people remember it. Sure, it wasn't as catchy as his "2 Legit 2 Quit" for the Adams Family sequel but we figured that it was a chance to play Hammer and that he deserved equal time after featuring The Nails earlier this year. We also got to hear E.G. Daily's "Don't Even Care" from her 1999 album, Tear Down The Walls. This is actually a pretty good track. Sure, you remember her from Valley Girl and her voiceover work but she sings well too.

EPISODE43 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

Martin had to admit he screwed up this week. You see, he scheduled an interview with Debbie Peterson of the Bangles and wasn't able to record it. She was really nice about it and talked to him about some upcoming projects but reconnecting just didn't happen in time as we had a hot little giveaway in our hands. Anyhow, we celebrated the recent release of the Bangles live DVD, Return To Bangleonia, by giving away a copy to one of our callers. We also gave the hits a compressed revisiting treatment before playing "Here Right Now" and "I Will Take Care Of You" from their latest album, Doll Revolution, -- tracks that also appear on the DVD. Well worth picking up either the DVD or the album (which has the single "Something That You Said" on it.)

EPISODE42 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

We put on our breakdancing clothes this week. (No, we didn't but let's just say that we were all headbands and parachute pants.) The reason was our featured artist was Newcleus. After a brief history lesson, we broke out a sample of their biggest hit ("Jam On It") as well as the songs "Automan" and "I Wanna Be A B-Boy" which appeared on their first two albums which have been reissued. They reportedly have been recording new music although they pushed the release date back.

EPISODE41 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

Toto, Toto... where are you Toto? No, not in Africa and we aren't visiting the Emerald City either. If you've been in a hole somewhere, Toto released their latest studio album, Falling In Between, recently and it goes without saying that they are one of the acts most worthy of having an episode dedicated to them. We start off with a montage. First time doing so and I think it works well. I mean, I could play their whole greatest hits collection for you but sometimes it's good to hear a bunch of the songs together to not beat you over the head with a group's finest moments. Anyhow, we followed that with "Bottom Of Your Soul," "Falling In Between" and "King Of The World" from the new album. I think that it shows quite a progression from "Rosanna" and "Africa" but you be the judge.
