EPISODE88 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

It has been a long while since Peter Cox and Richard Drummie went into the studio to create a new studio album. So we really had no choice when it came to featuring new songs ("Glow," "Only Love" and "Let Love Come") from Futurenow. Borough Music released the disc in late June and timing just worked out well to squeeze it in now. Aside from the album tracks, we also had our retrospective mix chronologically covering their singles. A little babbling about their career followed where we explained how a songwriting team became a hit-making dynamic duo.

We had a little technical difficulties before we started but the show went really well. Our appreciation goes out to several of the group's fans from the forums area at GoWest.org.uk (Trish, Valerie and Elle) who made the chat room feel like ladies night. (Meaning, we all had a great time and they didn't spend a dime on their drinks.)

EPISODE87 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

How many music genres are there? Ever wondered? We try to tackle as many as we can during our show and this week we touch on Renaissance/Pop/Rock with the band Blackmore's Night. The band helps us fill the music history gap of Deep Purple and Rainbow with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and explain where he's been since 1997. We featured the songs "Locked Within The Crystal Ball," "Gilded Cage" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" during the show as each captures a different touch used by the group in presenting fresh and creative soundscapes. Hope you enjoy.

During the show we had a few callers and as promised on the front of 80sMusicCentral.com for the last week, we gave a copy of Secret Voyage to someone in the chat room. (I think we asked them to type something like "pick me, pick me.") The winner, CWaters, found the show by doing a Google search on a band we mentioned during our last episode. That means one of several different things. 1) We are being monitored by the Britney Spears fan club because we are having an effect on the music industry. 2) Something is typing up all the really dumb things said during the show and we will likely be Googled next week for the 'rippable brassiere' remark made at Janet Jackson's expense today. 3) We are just lucky. It's probably a combination.

I wanted to also let you know that we set up several of our other ways for you to contact us (which I will check regularly) on the right hand side of the page. The new Facebook account has been interesting. Been spending too much time playing the music challenge games on iLike.

EPISODE86 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

Out of 85 shows before this one, you'd think we would have focused on at least one female country vocalist. We remedied it here with Crystal Gayle and the recent reissue of many of her albums in 2-for-1 sets (Miss The Mississippi/These Days, Hollywood, Tennessee/True Love, Cage The Songbird/Nobody Wants To Be Alone and Straight To The Heart/Nobody's Angel.) We featured songs ("Too Many Lovers," "Baby, What About You," "The Sound Of Goodbye" and "Straight To The Heart") from each of the 4 sets during this episode. For a singer with 52 singles on the Billboard Country Charts (34 in the Top 10 and 18 #1's), she sure doesn't get talked about much.

Exciting to see all the new faces in the chat room. We talked with a lot of different people at the New Media Expo 2008 during two days prior to the show and soaked in a lot of info. It has also been decided that we will be throwing a question out to you each week and ask you to post your replies here. You can also drop us a line on Twitter.

EPISODE85 - Talking 80s Music with Martin Hennessy

We have had a variety of music episodes in the last few weeks. This week we plan to lean towards R&B as we feature music ("Freakshow On The Dancefloor" and "Sexomatic" from Greatest Hits as well as "Just 2" and "Long Time Comin" off The Real Thing) by The Bar-Kays. When you listen to them, it's hard to believe they've been around since the '60s yet most people will not know the name if they heard it. We covered their past and present with the expectations that we'll see them in the future.

We also mentioned some upcoming episodes and, of course, anything that hasn't already happened remains in pencil. Next week, we head to the New Media Expo to gather information to hopefully better the show.
